Zelensky Says US Establishes June Finish Line with Miami as Negotiation Centerpiece

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that the United States wants to end the Russia-Ukraine war by June and has proposed hosting peace negotiations in Miami next week. The announcement marks a significant escalation in American diplomatic involvement.
Speaking to reporters in remarks released early Saturday, Zelensky explained that Washington’s offer to host talks in Miami represents an unprecedented development in the nearly four-year conflict. This would be the first time Ukrainian and Russian delegating teams have been invited to negotiate on United States soil. “The United States has proposed for the first time that the two negotiating teams — Ukraine and Russia — meet in the United States, probably in Miami, in a week’s time,” Zelensky stated.
The Miami meeting would be the third installment of US-facilitated negotiations, building on two previous rounds held in Abu Dhabi since January. While the Abu Dhabi sessions achieved a notable humanitarian outcome through a major prisoner exchange, they failed to bridge the gap on territorial issues. Russia presently controls approximately 20 percent of Ukraine and is demanding recognition of these occupied zones plus additional territorial control in the strategically vital Donetsk region.
Kyiv has steadfastly refused to cede any territory to Russia, maintaining that sovereign boundaries cannot be compromised under military pressure. Russian officials have characterized their territorial requirements as fundamental and have threatened to intensify military operations if diplomatic channels fail to deliver satisfactory territorial concessions. This deadlock over territory represents the primary barrier to achieving a comprehensive peace agreement.
Diplomatic developments continue amid ongoing military hostilities. In a video posted Saturday, Zelensky revealed that Russian forces had struck facilities essential to the operation of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants the night before. The attacks resulted in reduced power generation at several nuclear facilities and an automatic shutdown of one reactor unit. Zelensky described the strikes as unprecedented terrorism and called on Russia to prove its commitment to the peace process by halting attacks on critical civilian infrastructure.
