Bamba Experience Innovates, Shifts from Backpacker Focus to Multi-Brand Tourism Tech

Launched in 2005, the Bamba Experience Group has evolved from a brainstormed business idea into a diverse travel company with a portfolio that includes adventure travel, destination management, and women-focused group travel brands. Founded by Paul Sarfati and Arturo Martinez, Bamba Experience began as a venture shaped by Sarfati’s adventures and studies at Babson College. His global backpacking trip at 18 laid the foundation for a company centered on independent and experiential tourism, gradually morphing into Bamba Travel to cater to travelers seeking adventure-driven experiences.

The company’s strategic expansion saw it branching into destination management in 2008, with operations in Mexico and Peru that contributed to the formation of Be DMC, including Be Mexico and Be Peru. This segment collaborates with tour operators and travel agencies seeking local expertise. In 2013, the group introduced Urban Day Trips, focusing on short, locally immersive experiences. By 2020, Bamba Experience launched Baboo Travel, addressing the market need for bespoke trips by connecting travelers with Local Experts and utilizing technology to simplify the planning process. In 2026, the group further diversified with Viajando Juntas, a brand dedicated to small, women-focused travel groups, offering intimate journeys with a sense of community.

The Bamba Experience Group’s current offerings reflect its specialization strategy, which includes Bamba Travel for independent adventures, Be DMC for destination management, Urban Day Trips for local explorations, Baboo Travel for personalized itineraries, and Viajando Juntas for women’s group travel. Paul Sarfati explains that the company’s growth is driven by the evolving expectations of travelers and the necessity to adapt continually. “Travel changes. Technology changes. Distribution changes. People change,” Sarfati said, highlighting the need to meet these shifting demands.

Technology plays a crucial role across all of Bamba’s brands, with AI-enabled systems enhancing customer interactions, itinerary planning, and management processes. Sarfati emphasizes that while technology provides convenience, the focus remains on maintaining human interaction in travel experiences. This approach mirrors a broader trend in the tourism sector, where digital convenience complements the expertise of human agents in crafting complex, personalized itineraries and recommendations.

Over two decades, Bamba Experience has transitioned from a single adventure travel concept to a multifaceted business model centered on market specialization. Each brand is tailored to specific traveler needs while benefiting from shared technological platforms and expertise. The group’s strategy aligns with ongoing trends in tourism, such as experiential travel, customized itineraries, and digital planning, positioning Bamba Experience to meet the diverse demands of modern travelers.
